HISTORY Of NKAWIE KUMAA
History of Nkawie Kumaa, encompassing its origin, development, and evolution dates to the 15th century. The rich culture and custom of the Asante Kingdom which were passionately adhered to with a great sense of loyalty by early settlers has earned the community a monumental identity among the Asantes.
Origin
The humble begining of a community which is presently situated within the Atwima Nwabiagya South District is deeply rooted in the historical migration of the first King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu (Opemsuo) from Denkyira to Kumasi and his marriage to Adoma Akosua; a woman of the Denkyira descent. Per historical narrative, Opemsuo after years of stay at Denkyira moved to Kumasi with his wife, Adoma Akosua. Upon arrival, he made the latter settle at Pankrono Dome together with her relatives who came with her from Denkyira. Considering the large size of her family, Adoma Akosua then pleaded on Opemsuo for an alternative place to settle. Upon thoughtful consideration of the plea, Opemsuo directed the then Nkawie Panin Chief to give his wife a place at Nkawie Panin. Following their stay on the land that was allotted to her, the name Nkawie Kumaa was coined as the geographic identity for the area. A place which originally was undeveloped gradually progressed into a community, compelling Adoma Akosua to appoint her brother, Marfo as the first Chief for Nkawie Kumaa. After Nana Marfo's reign came Chiefs including Nana Adjei, Nana Twum Barima Apau , Nana Antwi Adjei IV among others till the present Chief for the area, Nana Oheneba Kwame Akoto
